HKG

We arrived in Hong Kong at sunrise and were welcomed by the Royal Bank of Scotland and Chivas Regal although those are only the last vestiges of Britain here. Everyone is Chinese from all parts of China originally. We are overlooking Victoria harbour in Kowloon. Today we took the train over to Hong Kong and went to the Four Seasons Hotel--some of which Bill does conceptual designs for--and had breakfast. Natala stayed here almost ten years ago when she brought over a group of teens on the maiden voyage of Cathay Pacific to put up an AIDS quilt. Yes, Bill and I found each other at the carosel at the airport. We saw the Chater collection at the art museum today. What a story of how the collection got lost, was buried, destroyed by the Japanese in occupation, saved by workers etc. He was an Armenian from Calcutta. Bank of China kiosks here and there. We are doing good on the subway--going from Tsim Sha Tsui station to Mok lok and further. Saw an amazing temple with lots of people, groups carrying heavy insense high and walking in circles around a fountain. Walked through the old walled city which is now no more but a park in its place. Most people here are serious businessmen and women, not many tourists. Found one other (yes, other than Bill) wearing a Hawaiin shirt today. Bill "dressed" for tea at the Peninsula. Tonight we watch the son et lumiere over the water and the sky scrapers beyond. This is the life! Onto to Bangkok tomorrow. Joy
